Ethical & Sustainable: Seeds & Stories operates according to the 4R approach: reduce, reuse, regenerate, and recycle. These original tote bags are made in Bigodi, a rural village in Western Uganda, by our skilled tailor.
Janerose, with her meticulous attention and dedication, crafts our unique tote bags using second-hand cotton sheets sourced from local markets. With precision, she cuts and stitches the fabric on a sewing machine, ensuring each bag is made to perfection. By repurposing these materials, we not only support the local economy but also contribute to the circularity of resources, keeping them in circulation for longer.
In the art of eco-printing, Shamusah and Angel work their magic. Using sustainably harvested local flowers and leaves, they create captivating patterns on our tote bag fabrics. This process is a harmonious collaboration with Mother Nature as we harness her gifts to adorn our bags. Through eco-printing, we honour the natural world by transferring the vibrant colours of leaves and flowers directly onto the fabric without the use of ink or paint. It's a sustainable and environmentally friendly way to add beauty to our products while preserving the integrity of our planet.
Customizable to Your Preferences: Our tote bags are made to order, allowing you to choose from different sizes and styles. You even have the option to add an inside or outside pocket if you wish. Each bag is crafted with eco-printed fabrics, ensuring that no two are exactly alike. Due to the availability of seasonal flowers and leaves, variations in color and patterns may occur, adding extra charm and uniqueness to our products.
Making a Difference: By choosing our stylish tote bags, you're not just making a fashion statement – you're making a difference. Each purchase from Seeds & Stories creates social, economic, and learning opportunities for women in rural Uganda. These opportunities empower women, increase their income, and enhance their overall well-being, all while preserving traditional crafts and promoting sustainable practices. Please send us a message with your preferences, and we'll work with you to create your perfect tote bag. Keep in mind that it takes approximately one week to eco-print the fabric, followed by two days for our tailor to make the tote bag. Depending on your location, it can take around four weeks for the product to be delivered. Rest assured, the wait is worth it for a one-of-a-kind, environmentally conscious accessory.
Materials
Our tote bags are crafted from 100% preloved cotton sheets, carefully sourced from local markets. These sheets undergo eco-printing, a process where they are adorned with patterns created from locally sourced leaves and flowers. This eco-printing technique not only adds a distinctive touch to each bag but also promotes sustainability and circularity in fashion by repurposing materials and reducing waste. Each tote bag carries a unique blend of eco-friendly design and style, making it a conscious choice for the environmentally-minded shopper.
Care Instructions
For optimal care of your tote bags, we recommend washing them with pH-neutral natural soap in cold water (up to 30°C), whether by hand or in a washing machine. After washing, it's best to dry them out of direct sunlight. If you choose to air dry your tote bags outside, be sure to place them in the shade as direct sunlight can cause colors to fade over time. Following these simple care instructions will help maintain the quality and vibrancy of your tote bags for years to come.

Seeds & Stories operates according to the 4R approach: reduce, reuse, regenerate and recycle. These original tote bags are made in Bigodi, a rural village in Western Uganda, by Jolly, our talented tailor. Moonlight, one of our experienced natural dyers, naturally dyes the barkcloth with local dye plants, roots and rainwater, which Jolly uses to make the pockets. Natural dyes are biodegradable and non-toxic, making them better for our artisans, customers, and the environment. Some of the bags are embroidered by Janerose and Jolly.
From harvesting to natural dyeing, from hand weaving to finishing, our artisans work at a slow pace in harmony with nature, conserving natural resources.
Each Seeds & Stories product is ethically made from a combination of local natural fibres and dyes, repurposed materials, modern designs, and ancient techniques passed down through generations. Our artisans are empowered to use their skills to create our unique soil-to-soil products while preserving their traditional crafts and cultural heritage.
