The process of making Kuba cloth is extremely time consuming. First, men first gather the leaves of the raffia palm tree, then dye it using mud, indigo or substances from the camwood tree. They rub the raffia fibers in their hands to soften it, making it easier for weaving.
Once the base cloth is complete, the women embroider it by pulling a few threads of the raffia fibers. The top of the fibers are cut with a knife, leaving only a little bit showing. Doing it this hundreds of time create a design.
